The History of Arcadia, Iowa

Arcadia was laid out in 1871. Its original name was "Tip Top," chosen due to its high elevation on the Missouri-Mississippi Divide, making it Iowa's topographically most elevated town. This location meant it was a watershed, dividing waters flowing to the Mississippi River from those flowing to the Missouri River. Isaac Newton Voris is credited with laying out the village. The town was incorporated in 1881. It was around this time that the name was changed from "Tip Top" to "Arcadia."
